Lucknow Super Giants are now on the verge of facing elimination from the IPL 2026 league stage after they suffered their seventh loss of the season in nine appearances.
LSG posted 228 runs on the board after batting first in Wankhede on Monday evening and hoped that their bowlers would restrict MI batters. However, MI ended up chasing the total in 18.4 overs, thanks to a brilliant century opening partnership from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton.
With only five matches left for LSG this season, the Rishabh Pant-led side cannot afford to win any more games. They will also have to win the games convincingly so that they can improve their net run rate and then wait for other competitors to lose some of their games.

After yet another frustrating loss against MI in Mumbai on Monday, Rishabh Pant was understandably frustrated with the team's performance.
Pant particularly pointed out the batters' inability to post an even higher total after they had got a brilliant start, thanks to some fiery batting from Nicholas Pooran, at the top of the order.
After the humiliating loss against an out-of-form team like MI, Pant told the broadcaster, "The way we started, we should have definitely got more runs. They bowled well, used to these conditions. Definitely, we were short 10-15 runs, 220-230 wickets for shot.
"We had an edge over them. On a wicket like this, you can't blame bowlers; they've been doing a great job. We need some good luck, man... It'll take more effort from us, for sure."
MI had no other option but to win the tie to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, as they cannot afford to lose any more games going forward since their loss to CSK in their last game.
Captain Hardik Pandya had missed out on the clash and Suryakumar Yadav, in his absence, took the leadership role and made sure MI remain in the hunt for the playoff spot.
