Ten Austin-area high school softball teams, including Dripping Springs, Bowie, and Weiss, advanced in the UIL playoffs after winning their area-round series. Notably, all four District 23-5A teams remain in contention.

Last weekend was another stellar one for Central Texas high school softball teams: 10 Austin-area teams won their area-round playoff series to advance to this week's third round that begin Wednesday and end Saturday.
Dripping Springs, Bowie, Vista Ridge, Weiss, Georgetown, Leander, East View, Liberty Hill, Hendrickson and Thrall won to move on in the UIL playoffs. But Hutto, Johnson, Smithville and Jarrell were eliminated in the area round.
One interesting note: All four District 23-5A teams are still alive, having gone 8-0 so far in the playoffs. It's the only district in the entire state that can make that claim.

Weiss crushed Richmond Randle by a combined 32-1 score in their two games, setting school records for runs in a playoff series in the process. In a race against the weather, Weiss played a first-night doubleheader and beat Richmond Randle 17-1 and 15-0.
Colbie Miske and Jordynn Booe hit solo home runs and Bella Gomez hit a two-run blast, but offense was provided by the entire lineup in the first game. The Wolves collected four singles, four walks, one hit batter, one sacrifice fly, one Randle error and a pair of doubles from Milani Martinez and Bel Larson in one 10-run inning.

District 23-5A is unique as all four of its teams are still alive in the playoffs, having gone 8-0 so far.
The next rounds of the UIL high school softball playoffs begin Wednesday and end Saturday.

And Game 2 was all Weiss as well, as the first five Weiss batters collected singles on the way to the 15-0 rout. Gomez had eight RBIs over the two games, the Wolves sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning and at one point hit four consecutive doubles.
Jillian Herridge got the pitching win in Game 1, going the full four innings and throwing only 77 pitches against 24 batters faced. Booe pitched the Game 2 win by facing only 13 batters â one over the minimum, with six strikeouts and no walks.
Weiss, the No. 2 team in the state, has a tall task this week against No. 1 Montgomery Lake Creek, which has twice topped the national rankings this
âą Bowie swept San Antonio Brennan 8-7 and 9-8. Josie Busceme hit a triple and scored two runs while Cadie Hays and Bella Nungaray each hit home runs in the 8-7 win, and Busceme went 3-for-4 with a triple, Celia Alvidrez had three RBIs and Lillie Gideon drove in the game-winning run with her two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning.
âą Dripping Springs swept San Antonio O'Connor, 10-3 and 5-4.
âą Vista Ridge swept San Antonio Madison 9-4 and 6-3.
âą San Benito beat Johnson 10-8.
âą Hutto was eliminated by San Antonio Clark 16-13 and 6-5. Makenna Castillo hit .556 for the series with two doubles, Kenna Spence hit .484 and both Keyouna Harris and Kaelyn Price hit .429. MâKayla Hicks hit .375 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs.
âą Georgetown won a one-game playoff over Lamar Consolidated 11-2, blowing open a 5-2 game with six runs in the seventh inning. Emma Miloch had two hits and three RBIs, Kynleigh Ball scored three runs and Gabi Acosta had a pair of RBIs. Caitlin Gomez scattered four hits over six innings pitched to earn the win.
âą East View swept Victoria East 6-3 and 8-7. The Patriots (28-8) have won seven straight games and now have an 80% winning percentage in games that have been decided by three runs or less this season.
âą Hendrickson had an impressive sweep of highly regarded Victoria West, 7-1 and 6-3. Zoey Kellam doubled and had an inside-the-park home run in the first game and Kara Luongo pitched a complete-game three-hitter with 14 strikeouts. In the second game, Leah Trevino's three RBIs, Kellam's two RBIs and another strong effort from Luongo (12 strikeouts) led the Hawks.
âą Leander pounded Seguin 15-0 and 13-3 as Kendel Akers had four hits in four at-bats and an RBI while Aliyah Allen had six hits in seven at-bats with a home run, nine RBIs and four runs scored.
In other series, Bellville beat Jarrell 13 and 6-1 while Smithville lost a pair of close games, 2-0 and 5-2, to Salado. Liberty Hill beat San Antonio Burbank 16-1 and 15-0 while Thrall beat McGregor 10-0, then lost 3-2, then won 11-6 to advance.
