Welcome, Joane! – The first interview with the new BVB signing
What do you think of our stadium?“It’s very impressive. I think it’s beautiful. The stadium is huge. I can’t wait to play here in front of all those people, in front of all the fans. When we score a goal, when we defend, the fans make us happy.”
What makes BVB special to you?“I think BVB is one of the biggest clubs in the world. The club has a great mentality.”
How would you describe your playing style?“I’m a defensive player. I like the defensive work. Defending is right up my street and I’m always ready to defend. Simply always.”
Do you think you can win over the BVB fans with your style of play?“I think so. I can win them over with my defensive work. When I make a sliding tackle, when I do my job. That’s exactly what I like. And I think the fans will like that too.”
You came through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain. Did you watch the Champions League matches against Dortmund in 2024?“When Süle cleared that ball, it was mad. It was a really good game.”
Which players did you look up to when you were growing up?“When I was younger, I often watched Sergio Ramos or Marquinhos. I’m inspired by his mentality. The guy just wants to defend his goal as if it were his own home. It belongs to him, so he defends the goal as if his life depended on it.”

And is that your mentality too?“When I’m on the pitch, our goal is like my own home to me. It’s as if I have to protect my little brother. Nobody’s getting in here.”
What are your personal goals here? And what do you want to achieve with BVB?“Personally, I want to become as good as I possibly can. I want to win as often as possible, win lots of titles and play lots of games for this club. That’s my dream.”
Can you already speak German?“Ein wenig, ja. *("A little bit, yes)*How are you, a bit, hello. I can do that already, but I still need to keep learning.”
