West Bromwich Albion asserts they have fully complied with financial regulations amid reports of a potential breach that could lead to a points deduction. This deduction could jeopardize their Championship status as they currently sit just above the relegation zone.
West Brom claim to have 'fully complied' with rules despite alleged breach
West Bromwich Albion have commented on reports that the club could be hit with a points deduction this season over a potential breach in the EFL's financial regulations.
This morning, journalist John Percy of The Telegraph reported that the EFL charged the Championship side over an apparent breach of financial rules from last season's accounts.
Should that charge stick then West Brom could be hit with a points deduction this season and as a consequence could face relegation to League One. The Baggies are currently in 20th place in the second tier, two points above the drop zone with four games left to play this season.
"West Bromwich Albion acknowledges media reports relating to the club’s compliance with the EFL’s Profitability & Sustainability (P&S) rules," the West Midlands outfit said in a statement.
"The club considers that it has fully complied with the P&S rules. The club will continue to co-operate with the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit and looks forward to resolving this matter.
"Albion understands the concerns of supporters and thanks fans for their unwavering support of the team, whose success on the pitch during the final four games of the season remains our absolute priority."
The EFL has yet to comment on the charge and West Brom are set to be in action on Saturday when they face a trip to Deepdale to take on Preston North End.
