West Brom denies breaching profit and sustainability rules following alleged breach
West Bromwich Albion have insisted they have “fully complied” with the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules after reports suggested the club could face a points deduction for an alleged breach, BBC Sport have reported.
A report claimed the Championship side had been charged with exceeding the £39m permitted loss limit across the three seasons to 2024-25. If found guilty, West Brom could be hit with a points penalty that would be applied this season, potentially dragging them into the relegation zone with only four games remaining.
The Baggies currently sit two points above the bottom three, increasing the pressure on head coach James Morrison as the club battles to avoid a damaging late collapse.
West Brom did not confirm they had been charged, but acknowledged the speculation in a statement. “The club considers that it has fully complied with the P&S rules,” it said, adding it will continue to co-operate with the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit.
Any sanction may not be confirmed until after the final day of the season on 2 May, due to the EFL’s timetable for compliance reports, responses and hearings. Reports suggest any breach could be minor, with potential deductions ranging from three to four points, though mitigation may apply.
With survival already on a knife-edge, uncertainty over the club’s financial position has added further tension to a crucial run-in.
