Westlake golfers secured their ninth UIL Class 6A state championship in ten years, winning by six strokes over The Woodlands. The team, coached by Michael Rome, finished with a total score of 578.

Westlake's dominance of Class 6A high school golf in Texas continues.
Led by Henry Talarico, the Chaparrals won their 15th state golf championship with a six-stroke victory over runner-up The Woodlands Tuesday at White Bluff Resort. Westlake led by six shots after Monday's first round and held on Tuesday.
Coached by Michael Rome, Westlake's winning team of Talarico, Dylan Knox, JP Lynch, Luke Frey and Sterling Hurd finished with a two-day score of 578 (284-294). The Woodlands finished with an overall score of 584 (290-294).
Talarico was the best golfer on the course, finishing with a score of 142 (70-72). After a five-way tie for third place, which included Hurd (72-72-144) and Lynch ((70-74-144), Hurd finished tied for third and Lynch fifth after a playoff.
Rounding out the Westlake golfers were Knox (72-77-149) and Frey (81-76-157).
It marked Westlake's ninth team title in 10 years.
Westlake golf has won a total of 15 state championships.
The key players included Henry Talarico, Dylan Knox, JP Lynch, Luke Frey, and Sterling Hurd.
Westlake finished with a score of 578, while The Woodlands scored 584.

Lake Travis had a fine showing at the state meet, finishing in third place, 25 shots behind the Chaparrals (303-300-603). The Cavs were led by Bennett Kuhns, who finished tied for third place (69-75-144) and MacKey Bennett (74-71-145), who tied for eighth. Rounding out the Lake Travis scoring were Brady Shelton (76-78-154), Elliott Cope (84-76-160) and Jack Rincon (88-86-174).
As for the future, Westlake's Hurd is a senior headed to Texas in the fall. Frey, also a senior, is heading to Emory University in Atlanta. Talarico, Knox and Lynch are sophomores.
Competing as an individual, Austin High junior Braydon Pratt (76-72-148) finished tied for 16th.
Anderson finishes 9th: In Class 5A, Prosper Walnut Grove (285-290) won state with a one-shot victory over Highland Park (288-288-576). The Anderson team of Cash Hernandez, Drew Gilley, Samuel Woodberry, Stephen Eidson and Thomas Ashy finished finished ninth (310 -320-630) at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.
Competing as an individual, Georgetown's Rylan Hogue (70-74-144) finished tied for ninth place.
Class 4A champion: In Class 4A, the Lubbock Cooper Liberty team of Cole Barr, Cy Jones, Jackson Ballou, Jay Ewing and Reed Blacklock (290-294-584) won the state team championship with a five-stroke win over Andrews at Legends Golf Course in Georgetown.
