An Instagram post from LeBron James in 2020 was recently resurfaced, which shows a photo of police officer Derrick Chauvin kneeling on Floyd. Chauvin killed Floyd while he was being arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in May 2020, and he was arrested and convicted of unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
Alongside that was a photo of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick also kneeling, with the caption "This...Is Why."
Mendoza, would have then been in high school, allegedly left a comment on James' post that read: "You need to explain the context of the first photo of the cop on the man, because you never know what he did wrong."
Fernando Mendoza's specific comments about George Floyd have not been detailed, but they have resurfaced and sparked criticism as he approaches the NFL Draft.
The controversy stems from Mendoza's old social media remarks, which many find inappropriate or offensive in light of George Floyd's tragic death and its impact on social justice discussions.
The backlash from Mendoza's comments could potentially impact his reputation and draft stock as teams evaluate his character and public perception ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
