Tommy Haugh's return to Florida basketball, along with Alex Condon and potentially Rueben Chinyelu, could position the team as a top contender for the 2026-27 season. The players are weighing their draft prospects, with next year's class seen as less competitive.
In this week's Swampcast, the Sun's Kevin Brockway, Andrew Abadie and Noah Ram discussed Tommy Haugh returning to Florida basketball and the recruiting momentum Florida football has built under Jon Sumrall.
Abadie said Haugh and forward Alex Condon's decision to return for their senior years was not just about NIL or chasing another title but comparing the 2026 NBA draft class to the projected NBA draft class in 2027. Florida also is expecting center Rueben Chinyelu to return after testing the waters for the NBA draft.
If Chinyelu returns, Florida could enter the 2026-27 season as the preseason No. 1 team in college basketball
"This year's draft class is stacked and next year is the polar opposite," Abadie said. "I think with the year Tommy Haugh had this year, he's a no brainer lottery pick in next year's draft. Same can be said for Condon and Chinyelu."
Later in the podcast, Brockway discussed the state of Florida football's 2027 recruiting class, which jumped to sixth nationally with the addition of four-star center Peyton Miller from Anna, Texas.
Earlier this month, Florida landed a commitment from five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller.
"They've been targeting the offensive line in this class for a reason because they've known that's an area where they are going to need to build and grow," Brockway said.
The podcast wrapped up discussing Florida baseball and Florida softball. Ram said Florida softball, at 45-7, is building some momentum after a two-game sweep of UCF.
"They are pretty much guaranteed to host a Super Regional, be a top eight seed," Ram said.

Tommy Haugh's return strengthens Florida's roster and boosts their chances of becoming a top contender for the upcoming season.
Alex Condon is also returning, and there is a possibility that Rueben Chinyelu will return after exploring NBA draft options.
Players are evaluating the competitiveness of the draft classes, with the 2026 class being strong and the 2027 class perceived as weaker.
