FSU Seminoles lost 8-3 to Stetson in the Tallahassee Regional, facing elimination. Coach Lonni Alameda highlighted the team's struggles with flyouts and missed opportunities with runners on base.
The No. 9-seeded FSU Seminoles were upset by the Stetson Hatters 8-3 on Friday night in the first game of the Tallahassee Regional, putting FSU on the brink of elimination.
The Seminoles never led in the game, as Stetson took an early lead and never stopped scoring. They scored in four innings, finishing the day with 12 hits. FSU's offense had chances, but was unable to get the big hit when they needed it most. They went 1-12 with runners on and 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
FSU head coach Lonni Alameda was asked about their struggles after the game and pointed to their 13 flyouts as part of the reason they struggled and them expanding the strike zone.
"I mean, I think we had the ball in the air," she said. "So when you got the ball in the air and it's not going out of the park, and that's easier air outs than that.
"Usually, we can make them work by getting runners on base and put the pressure on them. A lot of balls were right at them. So we didn't really get to the pressure situation that we usually can add to that."
Alameda also talked about what it does when a team keeps responding, FSU's ability to stay loose, and Jazzy Francik. Here are her comments after FSU's shocking loss.
I think Stetson came out and hit the ball and got after it and made some good pitches, and that's this time of year and now it's a chance and opportunity for us to dig deep into what we've done all season and bounce back and trust our training and getting after it
I mean, it could take you out of it, but I mean, it didn’t for us. I mean, we had some good swings. I mean, we're an inch and maybe a foot from some home runs there.
And they hit some balls where we weren't, we hit some balls where they were at. And I mean, you expect that this time of year, people to fight back and punch back. So yeah, I mean, to me, we just flat our got beat today and we got to turn around and figure out how to win two tomorrow.
Coach Lonni Alameda mentioned the team's struggles with flyouts and expanding the strike zone as key issues in the game.
FSU lost 8-3, failing to lead at any point during the game and going 1-12 with runners on base.
The loss puts FSU on the brink of elimination in the Tallahassee Regional, making their next game critical for their tournament hopes.

I think their home run hitters hit home runs, you know. So I think they got their swings off when they needed to. I mean, they put pressure on us. There's a couple of balls we're playing for one spot, and we're in the other, so they get their singles mixed in there.I think everything's just going right for that today. And I mean, good group, good swings, and yeah, that's the way it was.
I mean, I think if you're just playing to win all the time and you're not enjoying the process of it, I mean, that's just not the way that you need to go into this time of year because then you just feel the pressure. And if you're just feeling pressure, you're gonna melt.
And so I think we gotta enjoy the moments as we're getting through it and not press at that point. Same thing tomorrow, we just can't press. So our back's against the wall, it is what it is, but we just can't press. We really gotta enjoy the moments and let people do what they do. So I think that's a bit of the mindset there.
I mean, there's just no best performance at this point. You've got to go out and get wins. So in postseason, it's just about the wins. It's gritty, it's not pretty, it's gotta do it.
And I think the biggest thing by winning Game One is, tomorrow's game is, you got a little bit easier opportunity because now we're fighting for our lives in day two, and it's do or die. So do we have the maturity as a team right now to handle that? That's gonna be seen tomorrow. And I would put that probably on our upperclassmen to be able to keep it loose.
And our freshmen have never been here before, but they've played an incredible season together, so can they rely on that? So we're just gonna unveil a little bit of what we're like when we're back against the wall, and you can never have a practice or a game and be like, man, this is it, do you feel it? Like it is it tomorrow, so we're gonna know exactly what we're about. And I think it's a good learning lesson. I thought Bella Dimitrijevic came in and did a good job for us today.
And you think about some of these freshmen in these moments, like it's huge for us, so they're growing in front of our eyes. Can they not feel the pressure tomorrow and go compete? And I know these guys will, cuz they've been in it before, she's been in it before, and we just have things go right for us. Luck is a huge part of this game at this point, so we have to make things go right for us.
Yeah, I mean, I probably could pull the numbers, and her numbers, the best stuff is still there. Like this time of year, hitters are hitting good pitches. So I think just cause the outcome is, she got hit a little bit, I wouldn't say it's just the best stuff. I'd say that Stetson did a good job of capitalizing on some swings.
And when people get hit, it's not because they don't have good stuff, it's sometimes the hitters are just really good, and they take advantage of things. So there's probably a mix of that. You’re a little stunned like in the beginning, kind of like what do we got? I think Ashtyn and Tia, they're hitting a lot of the pitches right now.
So where do we go, what do we do? So then we had to make adjustments in-game at that point. But super mature to be like, hey, it is what it is. And what other sets do we wanna throw? And I think that's a little bit of Jazzy too.
So our hope is we see them again, right? Our hope is we see them again, and we get after them again. And we gotta make adjustments at that point too.
Yeah, I think the mid-majors right now, I'm going up to Coastal. I was a dogfight for three games with them up there. So it's really cool to see that the athleticism and the depth and pitching and all those things are at all levels right now. And it gives the game a chance to grow and it's pretty cool. And I also think we have an assistant coach that's a national team coach for Canada.
Their assistant coach is her coach with her. There's some Canadians on that team. We talk about the international game. It's just really cool how it's connected and it's really good. People love it. Many Noles didn't like the outcome today.
It was still a good ballgame. There's a lot of really good things. It's a beautiful day to watch them softball. So that continues to grow. And the mid-major level, it just raises our bar and raises our game.
I mean, I think we had the ball in the air. So when you got the ball in the air and it's not going out of the park, and that's easier air outs than that. Usually we can make them work by getting runners on base and put the pressure on them. A lot of balls were right at them.
So we didn't really get to the pressure situation that we usually can add to that. So, yeah, so maybe chasing a little bit of the up. I mean, Ash got one, right, that she can handle.
Some of us may be chasing a little bit, so a little out of the zone. So then we get a little more flight than in the zone and on the line. So, but I mean, still all good swings.
I think we all had the game plan. Yeah, just made some good plays a few times. And seeing the gap on that one with Jay, that ball drops in. That's kind of been left for us in the past. And you got a couple more runners on. Kennedy ran into an out there that we could have run a second.
But I mean, we've been in that situation all year. So there's nothing, anything different that we had today. They just beat us, and it is what it is. And we need to turn around tomorrow and go play with our hair on fire.
