Last spring the Narragansett boys lacrosse team made the trip to Lincoln for the Division III semifinals and came away with a crazy comeback that sent them on their run to the title.
Friday night, no comeback was necessary.
Defense has been the Mariners calling card this season and that reputation didnāt change in the rematch with the Lions. After a low-scoring first half, Narragansett got three goals in the second and the defense only allowed one in the second half in a 5-3 win over Lincoln.
Narragansett's Jace Stephen puts a hit on Lincoln's Eli Hughes, knocking the ball loose during the fourth quarter of their Division III boys lacrosse game on Friday, April 17, 2026. The Mariners grabbed the win, 5-3.
There were 17 goals in last springās Division III semifinal, where the Mariners scored five times in the fourth quarter to pull off the upset over the second-seeded Lions. This matchup went a little different.
Narragansett dominated possession throughout the first half but had little to show for it. Shots when high, wide and everywhere else but between the pipes. Lincoln was having more success, with goals by Eli Hughes and Casey Acciardo sandwiched a Gansett goal from Alex Bouard.
The score was tied at two at halftime ā Bouard added a tally in the second quarter ā and the Marinersā continued to earn possessions but couldnāt score.
With 2:50 left, Quincy Hammond ā who scored the game-winner in last yearās semifinal ā popped one home for the 4-3 lead and 1:33 late, Owen Oakes scored to make it 5-3.
That was more than enough for Narragansettās defense, which held down the fort. When Lincoln did get shots off, was there to make the plays, including two in the final 90 seconds to secure the win.
The final score was Narragansett 5, Lincoln 3.
Narragansett had a low-scoring first half but improved in the second half.
The Mariners' strength this season has been their strong defense.
Coaches should submit game results each weeknight from 6 to 10 p.m. via email.

Ava Lopez, Smithfield softball
Ava Lopez and Mia Howard came up with the two biggest swings of the day, breaking open a tie game that ended with the Sentinels grabbing a 10-4 win over the Quakers.
Moses Brown tied the game on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Smithfield made sure to get it back. With two runners on and two outs, Lopez ripped a two-run double that plated two and two batters later, Howard hit a two-run triple to make it 8-4 before adding two runs in the seventh inning.
Lopez finished the afternoon 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Giannah Tutt and Howard drove in a pair and Olivia Keene led Smithfield with three runs. Sophia Parrillo also scored two in the win. The Sentinels are now 2-5 on the season.
Abigail DeWolf had two hits and scored one run for Moses Brown (0-7) and Emmeline Monchik finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run.
The Chargers continued to rake and Adriana Jeannenot continued to deal to keep the team undefeated with a 6-1 win over the Patriots.
Jeannenot was dominated from the get-go and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Maddie Tuirok led the inning off with a single and later scored on an error.
The run didnāt mean much to Charihoās chances. The Chargers put up two runs in the third on back-to-back doubles by Maddie Dorgan and Anna Tretton and added three more in the third, highlighted by a Trettonās two-run double.
Jeannenot walked one and hit two others while striking out 11 for Chariho. Tretton finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and Dorgan scored two runs and had one RBI in the win. The win gets Chariho to 7-0 heading into Mondayās rematch with undefeated defending state champ La Salle.
Tuirok had the lone hit and lone run for Pilgrim, which drops to 1-6 on the season and will try to grab a win Monday when it hosts Bay View.
Gianna Tocci, Cranston East Softball
Gianni Tocciās two-out sixth-inning double broke up a tie game and got the Thunderbolts a 7-1 win over Pawtucket.
Cranston East scored one in the first, Pawtucket tied the game in the third but the score remained knotted going to the sixth. Angelina Saing and Bryanna Morales reached to open the inning and the Thunderbolts loaded the bases after a Pawtucket error. Following the second out of the inning, Tocci hit a 1-1 pitch to left for a double and two runs to give East the lead.
The Thunderbolts added four more in the seventh, but Leonna Garcia didnāt need them. The senior threw seven innings of five hit ball, surviving six walks while striking out six.
Tocci finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Saing had two hits and scored twice and Yonalia Jimenez had one hit and two RBI in the win. Cranston East is now 5-3 in Division III.
Lauren Christian drove in a run for Pawtucket, which falls to 4-2 on the season.
Freshman Priyasha Verma paced a potent offensive attack from the Warriors in an 18-6 win over Navigators, their first victory of the season.
Central Falls put up crooked numbers early, answered three Paul Cuffee runs in the first with seven of its own. The Warriors scored nine in the second and added two more in the third before the game ended via the 10-run rule.
Verma finished the day 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI and L.C. Collins drove in a pair and scored twice. Harlow Morrissey, Nevaeh Fontaine, Sidney Pelletier and Ava Lippe scored two runs apiece for CF, which is now 1-6 and will play Monday at BNS.
Cuffee remains winless on the season and will look for a victory Wednesday when it travels to play Exeter-West Greenwich.
The Islanders remembered to bring their bats on the road trip to Providence and pounded out 11 runs in the first two innings before coming away with a 16-0 win over the Cavaliers.
Middletown got going early and Finley Berard drove in the gameās first run before Delaney King followed with a two-run double. The Islanders added another before the inning was done, then threw up seven in the second before the game ended after four innings via the 12-run rule.
Berard had a huge game, going 3-for-3 with six RBI and three runs. King finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs and Juliana Brett was 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Charlotte Miller and Abigail Poorman both scored twice for Middletown, which improves to 5-2 and will play at Mount Pleasant on Tuesday.

Luke Dwyer, Smithfield Baseball
ColeĀ RosenĀ scattered four hits over five shutout innings and the Rebel bats did the rest in this mercy-rule shortened contest.
Rosen, who struck out five and walked one, also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Leadoff batterĀ SamĀ McLeodĀ led the SK offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.Ā FinnĀ HendersonĀ drove in two runs, whileĀ JackĀ Noonan,Ā BraydenĀ RosenĀ andĀ ConnorĀ WokoskeĀ each had two hits in the road win.
For the Quakers,Ā DustinĀ Boudreau,Ā EliĀ Quackenbush,Ā DrewĀ AlgavaĀ andĀ RiverĀ BenoitĀ each recorded a hit.
Luke Dwyer had two hits and drove in four runs and as the Sentinels escaped with a victory over the Huskies.
With the game tied 4-4 through five innings, Dwyer singled in a run in the top of the sixth to retake the lead. A five-run seventh inning, with key 2-run doubles by both Gavin Gibree and Dwyer helped put the game away.
Brady McShane, who started on the mound for Smithfield, picked up the win as he threw five innings, allowing four runs while striking out five. Gibree came on in relief and held Mt. Hope scoreless final two innings to pick up the save.
The scoreline shows North Smithfield vs. Pawtucket, but it could have easily readĀ DylanĀ NickersonĀ vs. Pawtucket.
That's because it was Nickerson's double in the home half of the first inning that brought homeĀ ZachĀ PaivaĀ andĀ NickĀ TremblayĀ for the only runs of the game.
And on the mound, Nickerson was even more impressive. He struck out 10 batters through six shutout innings without yielding a hit.Ā SamĀ GarrepyĀ closed things out in the seventh with one scoreless inning of relief. The Northmen'sĀ JacobĀ GabrielsonĀ was 2-for-3 for the day.
Pawtucket'sĀ DylanĀ Fernandez was impressive in his own right. After allowing two (unearned) runs in the first, he didn't allow any more through four more frames, while fanning four and walking one.Ā JeremyĀ TorresĀ threw one inning of relief and struck out three in the loss.
No-hit pitching and an offense that just wouldn't quit in innings three through five was the recipe for the Blue Wave's victory over Times2.
Hope's starting pitcher Jose Montero was outstanding on the hill, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out 11 in the game that was shortened to five innings due to the Mercy Rule.
At the plate for Hope, three players ā Montero, Marcos Medrano and Christopher Gamboa ā each had two hits and Medrano and Samuel Garcia had 3 RBI each.
Medrano,Ā Montero, andĀ GamboaĀ each collected two hits in the win and Medrano and Bernard had three RBI apiece.
Patience also proved to be a virtue for Hope as they collected 10 walks as a team.
JulianĀ PerryĀ had two RBIs from the nine-hole, leadoff batterĀ Silas McKayscored twice andĀ EliĀ Ozbekwas 1-for-3 with two runs scored as the Purple held off the Cavaliers.
On the mound,Ā HubertĀ MatosĀ struck out seven, and allowed just one hit and one earned run through five innings to pick up the win.
The Cavs were paced byĀ IsaiahĀ Bento-Vazquez, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the loss.
Blake Riley, South Kingstown Boys Lacrosse
After a one-hour rain delay, South Kingstown wasted little time taking control and rolling to a decisive victory over Middletown in this crossover match.
The Division I Rebels came out sharp and set the tone early, building a commanding 12ā2 lead by halftime behind a balanced and relentless offensive attack.
BlakeĀ RileyĀ led the way for South Kingstown with five goals, whileĀ HamptonĀ HubbardĀ added four.Ā MasonĀ ThornĀ contributed three goals, andĀ MichaelĀ Schafer,Ā JohnathanĀ Hand, andĀ WilliamĀ CostelloĀ each found the back of the net to round out the scoring.
