Virat Kohli's difficult run of form deepened on Sunday when he was dismissed for the second successive time without scoring, this time in RCB's chase of 167 against Mumbai Indians at Raipur.
Deepak Chahar was the bowler who did the damage, with a delivery in the very first over that bounced slightly more than Kohli anticipated. The attempted drive over mid-off found Raj Bawa running in from mid-off, and he took a clean catch to send the RCB batter back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.
Just days earlier, on May 7 in Lucknow, Kohli had also departed without scoring against Lucknow Super Giants.
Prince Yadav bowled him out with a delivery that shattered the stumps after Kohli faced just two balls. That match ended in a nine-run defeat for RCB via the DRS method, and Kohli's dismissal in the first over had set the tone for a difficult chase.

The last time Kohli recorded consecutive ducks, it was during the ODI series against Australia in late 2025. He was dismissed for nought at Perth and then again at Adelaide, leaving many wondering whether something had gone wrong technically.
What followed silenced every critic. In Sydney, he walked in and scored 74 not out across 81 balls, finishing unbeaten.
In the series against South Africa that followed, he hit 135 off 143 balls at Ranchi, then 102 off 93 at Raipur before signing off with an unbeaten 65 off 45 at Visakhapatnam.
He then made 93 off 91 against New Zealand in Vadodara. Five innings, two centuries, two fifties. It was a relentless counter-punch that sent back every one of the critic back in their holes.
During the 2022 season, Kohli suffered consecutive golden ducks within the space of four days.
On April 19, Dushmantha Chameera of Lucknow Super Giants dismissed him on the first ball, caught at backward point, before he could settle.
On April 23, Marco Jansen of Sunrisers Hyderabad removed him again on the first ball, this time caught at second slip. The 2022 season went on to haunt Kohli further as he also recorded a third golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8.
If history is anything to go by, worrying about Virat Kohli after two ducks is a short-term exercise. He has been here before, in 2022, in Australia, and the response has always been more compelling than the slump.
RCB's concern is timing, not talent. With the playoffs approaching and Phil Salt already injured, they cannot afford their best batter taking long to regain his rhythm.
