The Detroit Tigers got some terrible news in recent weeks, losing Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal to lengthy injuries.
And now, another player is landing on the injured list, and this time, it's not a pitcher. According to Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press, the Tigers are placing Gleyber Torres on the IL.
But why did the Tigers place Torres on the injured list? What happened to the All-Star Tigers infielder that led him to land on the IL and miss at least the next 10 days?
"Gleyber Torres placed on 10-day injured list with left oblique strain," Petzold reports. "Jace Jun recalled from Triple-A Toledo."
Detroit hasn't seen Torres play since May 2nd, so he's missed a few games already. But now, on May 6th, he's landing on the injured list with this oblique issue and will miss a decent amount of time.
The specific injury that led to Gleyber Torres being placed on the injured list has not been disclosed.
Gleyber Torres is expected to miss at least the next 10 days while on the injured list.
Gleyber Torres' injury adds to the Tigers' challenges as they have already lost key pitchers Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal to injuries.

This placement on the IL will be retroactive to Sunday, May 2nd. So while he's going on the IL on May 6th, he can return as early as May 13th.
However, such a return might prove to be difficult, as oblique injuries can be tricky. There was seemingly some good news, as Torres seemed to be trending in the right direction.
But this diagnosis of a left oblique strain now will force the Tigers' All-Star, who signed the $22.025 million qualifying offer this offseason, to miss some time.
This season, Torres has a .259 batting average with two homers and 11 RBIs to go with a .717 OPS. The former New York Yankees star, who is 29 years old and will be a free agent after the season, will now hit the IL with an oblique strain.
