The 2026 season has been a rough one for the Boston Red Sox, with their poor record and a plethora of injuries to key contributors like Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet.
And recently, things got a bit worse with an injury update on infielder Trevor Story. With the Red Sox coming off a loss to the Atlanta Braves, the team made a roster move that will put a pause to Story's 2026 season for now.
According to Christopher Smith of MassLive, the Red Sox are placing Story on the injured list. It's a tough blow for Boston, as they're losing another key player to the IL for some time.
"Source: Trevor Story is headed to the IL," Smith reports. This placement on the IL for Story likely coincides with his groin issue.
The specific injury that led to Trevor Story being placed on the injured list has not been detailed in the report.
Trevor Story's injury is a significant setback for the Red Sox, who are already dealing with a poor record and multiple injuries to key players.
There is currently no timeline provided for Trevor Story's return from the injured list.

As Chris Cotillo of MassLive notes, Story's going issues began in late April in a game against the Baltimore Orioles, and now, in the middle of May, he's landing on the IL.
Story just a few days ago hit his third home run of the season and went 2-for-3 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Three days later, and he's on the injured list.
This season, Story is hitting just .206 with three homers, 19 RBIs, and a .547 OPS in 41 games and 165 at-bats. Compared to his 2025 season with a .263 average, 25 homers, and a .741 OPS, this year has been a big step back for Story.
His struggles this year have him as the fourth-worst hitter on the team by OPS, with only Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, Caleb Durbin, and Jarren Duran worse this season.
Hopefully, this placement on the injured list will give Story time to rest, come back healthy, and be ready to turn his season around.
Boston can turn to Andruw Monasterio, Kiner-Falefa, Marcelo Mayer, or a call-up for someone like Eric Sogard to help fill Story's roster spot.
