One bright spot in Chelseaâs defeat to Nottingham Forest was the introduction of Levi Colwill at half time.
The defender had made the matchday squad for the first time this season after recovering from an ACL injury, and ended up playing far more minutes than anyone expected.
âNot necessarily [the plan], but he was ready for minutes,â McFarlane explained when asked if a midway break was something pre-planned.
âWe thought it was the right time based on how we felt the second half was going to go â we felt that he could help us.â
The interim coach said it was âone of the few positivesâ from the game that Chelsea had Colwill back.
What that really means is that, with the game already basically lost, they felt the best use of the second period was to get some more match sharpness into Colwill, and perhaps try to use his good passing to try and create some chances.
Hopefully getting more time than anticipated can bring the date he can potentially start forward even further.
