A storybook season didn't have a happy ending for the New England Patriots, whose improbable title pursuit halted with a Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Drake Maye is ready to turn the page on the disappointing outcome.
Maye reflected on New England's championship defeat during an interview alongside his wife, Ann Michael Maye, at the Masters Tournament. The quarterback shared his takeaways from the Super Bowl loss with Kira K. Dixon.
"It’s humbling," Maye said when asked what he learned. "You got to get back to work. When you’re so close and within reach, you want that feeling. Everybody says you’ll be back. It’s not that easy, so we got to get back to work. And I'm looking forward to try to prove to myself that I can get back."
The Patriots went from 4-13 to 14-3 in Maye's second season under center. Maye narrowly finished second to Matthew Stafford in the MVP voting after completing 72 percent of his passes for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns.
The postseason results weren't as efficient for Maye, who completed 70 of 120 passes for 828 yards. He also endured some uncharacteristic ball-security issues, throwing four interceptions and losing five of eight fumbles in four games.
Maye ultimately tallied 295 passing yards in Super Bowl LX, but New England didn't score until the fourth quarter. Seattle's defense forced three takeaways in six sacks in a dominant performance at Levi's Stadium.
The final outcome shouldn't dampen a breakout season for Maye, but the 23-year-old realizes he can't take last season's success for granted.
