What stunned Alex Fitzpatrick told his Dad about Matt during their Zurich Classic win

Matt Fitzpatrick has a real claim for being the best player in the world in 2026.

The Sheffield-born star has won three times on the PGA Tour this season, including back-to-back wins at the RBC Heritage and the Zurich Classic alongside his brother.

The Fitzpatricks’ win in New Orleans made them the first brothers to win a PGA Tour team event in the tour’s history, and it changed Alex’s life. He earned a PGA Tour exemption for two years and qualified for the PGA Championship and The Players.

Alex held up his end with some phenomenal shot-making, but after the win, he told his dad what he couldn’t believe about his world number three brother.

Alex Fitzpatrick couldn’t believe how good Matt was at Zurich Classic

Alex held up his end of the bargain, but Matt Fitzpatrick is playing the golf of his life and was the engine driving this pairing throughout the week. And even his brother couldn’t quite believe just how good Matt was.

Speaking to Dan Rapaport on Dan on Golf after his win, Alex said, “I feel like every time I play with him or I am around him he gets better and better. I said it to my Dad and I said it to Pete, my caddie, at the start of the week when we played a couple of rounds.

“I said I could not believe how good he was. He is just a different player from the last time I saw him and played with him. I am just really thankful he was on my side and not anybody else’s.”

Last year was a difficult one for an out-of-form Matt Fitzpatrick. He was winless on the PGA Tour and missed four cuts.

So this sudden spike in form has surprised us all, and even his brother!
