The New Orleans Saints have acquired former Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson, who impressed NFL scouts with his route-running and toughness. Despite concerns about durability, Tyson's skills and performance in critical moments make him a promising addition for the team.
What are the New Orleans Saints getting in Jordyn Tyson? This year's first round draft pick made waves at Arizona State, doing far more than his fair share to lift up the Sun Devils and catch the eyes of NFL scouts. Now he's landed in New Orleans and is gearing up for his first practices at this weekend's Saints minicamp. So what should fans expect from the first-year pro?
We checked in with Jess Root over at Cards Wire, an ASU season ticket holder, to get a firsthand take on what he has to offer.
"Saints fans are going to love Tyson," Root began. "There is really nothing he can't do. While he doesn't have elite speed, he will outrun many. His route-running is amazing. He has great hands. He has size. He is tough. And while durability is a concern, toughness is not. After he hurt his hamstring against Texas Tech, he finished the game and made the critical touchdown catch."
Tyson played through the pain in that upset win over Texas Tech; the Red Raiders went into the game with an undefeated 6-0 record, which had propelled them to rank No. 7 nationwide. His 2-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter extended Arizona State's lead to 16-7, and if you go back and watch thee game's highlights, you'll see Tyson blocking out on the edge for running back Raleek Brown's last-minute touchdown run to retake the lead. Tyson made a big impact beyond the stat sheet (10 catches for 105 yards and a score). Saints fans will be happy to see that on Sundays this fall.
