Two days, six rounds remaining. San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch are feeling good after trading away their first round pick for additional picks including two extra on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The draft resumes on Friday, April 24 and ends on Saturday, April 25 in Pittsburgh.
Lynch and Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan already have identified a prospect that was still available after the first round. The 49ers have the first pick in the second round which begins at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT) on Friday.
"I think it's the way the board fell. There were a couple, a few players, that we would've taken had they been there. That didn't happen. We had done our due diligence probably about this time last week. We started making calls, āHey, if we were to get back.ā And I think the reason why, I think this was a draft where a lot of people were trying to move back, so you wanted to get ahead," Lynch told reporters.
He added: "We had a couple deals secured. The second deal was from a team we didn't have secured, but we had made contact with. So, I think we were able to swap a fourth for a third in one deal. We were able to pick up some things to move back three spots. And I think the cool thing about the 33rd pick, it puts you in a really nice, we can kind of reconvene, reset our board, reset our thoughts, and I think it's also a coveted pick as a lot of teams are doing that themselves. So, that's where we're at.ā
However, Lynch didn't rule out trading the No. 33 pick saying that they would listen to offers, but were pretty set on who they would select to open the second round.
The 49ers now have eight total picks in the draft: Nos. 33, 58, 90, 127, 133, 138, 139 and 179.
Expect the Niners to resume their original game plan that they figured for the first round during Day 2 which will consist of rounds 2 and 3. Here's the 49ers draft selection in the upcoming rounds on Day 2 and how to watch.
