Alabama baseball's recent struggles in SEC play have impacted their NCAA Tournament projections. With a 29-16 overall record and three consecutive conference losses, they are now on the bubble for hosting a regional.
After a strong start to conference action, there is no denying that SEC play recently has not been as kind to Alabama baseball.
Entering this weekend's home series against Vanderbilt, Alabama owns a 29-16 overall record (10-11 SEC), and have dropped each of their last three conference sets to Arkansas, Texas, and most recently, Tennessee. This came after the Crimson Tide won three of their first four SEC sets, two of which were home sweeps over Florida and Auburn.
The Crimson Tide also had a rough nonconference loss during that stretch, an 11-2 midweek defeat at home to UAB.
As a result, Alabama has seen their NCAA Tournament seed projections take a bit of a turn in the opposite direction, with the Crimson Tide now potentially on the bubble when it comes to hosting a regional.
With three SEC series' remaining in the regular season, where does that projection currently stand entering a three-game set with Vanderbilt this weekend?
According to D1Baseball's latest NCAA Tournament projections, Alabama is projected as the nation's No. 17 overall seed, as of Tuesday, April 28. D1Baseball currently has Alabama as the No. 2 seed in the Tallahassee Regional, with the Crimson Tide joined by projected No. 16 overall seed Florida State, TCU, and North Florida.
The Crimson Tide will be back in action later this week for a three-game set against Vanderbilt at home. Alabama also has SEC series' with South Carolina and Ole Miss remaining in the regular season, as well as a midweek road trip to Troy, and will certainly need to go a run over the coming weeks in order to secure a Top 16 seed.
