Where do OU, OSU baseball stand in NCAA Tournament picture ahead of lone Bedlam game?

OU baseball is currently ranked No. 14 and is building a case to host an NCAA regional after winning two of three games against Vanderbilt. In contrast, OSU's recent losses at Kansas State have jeopardized their postseason chances as they prepare for a critical Bedlam game on Tuesday at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
Bedlam baseball arrives with the teams at critical points in their seasons but with very different circumstances.
OU went to Vanderbilt and took two of three games over the weekend as the No. 14 Sooners continue building their case to host an NCAA regional.
Oklahoma State dropped two of three at Kansas State in a battle of bubble teams that could be costly for the Cowboys’ postseason hopes.
The Sooners (24-11, 7-8 SEC) and Cowboys (22-14, 7-8 Big 12) meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

Sooners gaining momentum
Even in a year when Vandy isn’t an elite team, winning at Hawkins Field in Nashville is no easy chore.
But the Sooners rallied from an early four-run deficit in the second game of the series for a 13-11 win, then pulled out a tight 6-5 victory in the finale.
OU bounced back from a sweep at Texas with five wins in their last eight games, with four of those wins on the road.
Camden Johnson and Delten Lachance each had multiple homers against Vanderbilt, with Johnson homering twice and driving in seven runs in the 13-11 victory.
After Bedlam, the Sooners host Missouri, which currently sits at 116 in the RPI, so it could be a good opportunity to build some momentum before the stretch run against an SEC gauntlet of Auburn, Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee — all ranked 35th or better in the RPI.

Cowboys reaching tenuous stretch in schedule
This is a big week for the Pokes, with four chances against top-25 teams in the RPI.
After Bedlam, OSU hosts Kansas, which has surged to the top of the Big 12 standings with a 12-4 league mark so far.
OSU is in need of some high-profile wins, and the week is full of opportunity. However, the Cowboys’ pitching depth has been thinned, evident in the 34 runs allowed over three games at K-State.
Coach Josh Holliday has used reliever Bryce LeBlanc to open the last two Sunday games, with the plan of getting a couple innings from the left-hander, then emptying the bullpen behind him.
Without a lot of starting pitching options, Holliday is likely to use a heavy bullpen approach against the Sooners on Tuesday, behind likely starter TP Wentworth, the regular right fielder. Wentworth has made eight pitching appearances, but has gone more than two innings just twice.

Where do OU, OSU stand in NCAA Tournament picture?
For now, the Sooners have positioned themselves well in pursuit of a top-16 seed and regional host berth. But their remaining schedule presents the bigger challenge.
OU enters Bedlam at No. 15 in the RPI, despite being tied for ninth in the SEC standings. The challenging May schedule will fortify their RPI to an extent, but earning a top-16 spot will require more performances like the Sooners had at Vandy.
The Cowboys are No. 51 in the RPI, which has them firmly on the bubble.
However, the Pokes have just two series remaining against teams with an RPI of 40 or better — Kansas and Arizona State. So the schedule strength won’t provide much of a boost, meaning the Cowboys have to be better than a .500 team in Big 12 play down the stretch to keep themselves in the hunt for a NCAA Tournament bid.
