The Atlanta Falcons rank 23rd in roster strength according to a new projection model. The Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams lead the NFL with the best rosters heading into the 2026 season.
By Week 8 of last season, the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams had established themselves as by far the two best teams in the NFL. Fast-forward eight months and it seems like not much has changed in that landscape.
According to a new projection model from The Athletic, the Rams and the Seahawks have the best rosters in the league going into the 2026 season. If you're looking for the Atlanta Falcons, you'll find them all the way down at No. 23.
"Bijan Robinson is quite good, Kyle Pitts has emerged and the interior of the offensive line grades as quality. The rest of the Falcons' offense, though, is in shambles. The problems start at quarterback. The book is out on Tua Tagovailoa, so it seems up to Michael Penix Jr. in his third year — and that's scary. On defense, the secondary is in good shape, with both the cornerbacks and safeties grading out as above average. The front seven needs a lot of work, as no position there ranks better than 21st."
This pretty much nails the dynamic for Atlanta. Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Bijan Robinson are one of the best TE-WR-RB combinations in the NFL and the Falcons' offensive line is respectable.
Unfortunately, the quarterback situation is entirely unsettled and Atlanta has very little depth to go around on this side of the ball. Quarterbacks play a weighty role in these kinds of projections, and until either or proves themselves the Falcons are unlikely to rise much in these or any other type of power rankings.
The Atlanta Falcons are currently ranked 23rd in roster strength.

The Falcons have a strong TE-WR-RB combination and a respectable offensive line, but their quarterback situation and front seven on defense need significant improvement.

The big problem on defense is the front-seven, which has one star in James Pearce Jr. - and there's no guarantee he won't get a significant suspension from the NFL even if he escapes legal liability for his off-the-field troubles this offseason.
Outside of Pearce there's precious little athleticism and talent to go around - and it's a miraculous credit to defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich's coaching that they got as much pressure as they did last season.
The backfield is strong, but you can make a good case that Atlanta has the worst linebacker/defensive line group in the entire NFL. The Falcons probably should have used one of their earlier draft picks on a run stuffer like Texas Tech's Lee Hunter, who went to the division rival Carolina Panthers in Round 2. Much will depend on rookie Kendal Daniels hitting the ground running, but if Pearce misses any real time Atlanta's defense will suffer mightily despite an excellent secondary.
Overall this roster has some great individual pieces, but there's still too many holes to go around, and in the worst-possible places.
