FSU softball has dropped from the No. 11 to No. 19 seed in Softball America's latest NCAA tournament predictions, putting their streak of hosting a regional at risk for the first time since 2013. They are projected to compete in the College Station Regional hosted by Texas A&M.
For the first time since 2013, the FSU softball program is in danger of not hosting an NCAA Regional.
Softball America released its latest predictions for the NCAA tournament on Wednesday, and the Seminoles went from being the No. 11 overall seed to No. 19, dropping them as a host. FSU has hosted a regional for 11 straight years, advancing to the Super Regional round 10 times. It did work out well in 2013 for the Seminoles, who won the Mobile Regional before losing to Texas in the Super Regional round.
The new projections have them competing in the College Station Regional, which will be hosted by the No. 14-seeded Texas A&M Aggies. The Texas State Bobcats and Miami Hurricanes are the No. 3 and 4 seeds in the regional, respectively. The College Station Regional is paired with the Knoxville Regional, which the No. 6-seeded Tennessee Volunteers host.
While it is surprising to see FSU no longer hosting, it is not shocking after the Stanford Cardinal swept them last weekend. The Seminoles are 36-7 overall and 12-3 in ACC play, but they lack quality wins, as Softball America editor Brady Vernon pointed out on social media.
The Seminoles will have a chance to snap their losing streak on Friday when they host the North Carolina Tar Heels in Game One of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
