Jacksonville State softball is getting ready to take on UCF in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Tallahassee Regional features three teams from Florida in Florida State, UCF and Stetson (which is not, incidentally, located in Texas). With Jacksonville, Florida, being the more famous Jacksonville, many assume Jax State is in Florida.
But that's not the case.
Others get it confused with Jackson State, the HBCU located in Mississippi. The football media game notes have to clarify that the Gamecocks are located in Alabama, not Florida or Mississippi, like many think.

Jacksonville State University is located in northeast Alabama. The school is almost in the middle between Birmingham and Atlanta, Georgia, just north of Interstate 20.
The campus is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian MountainsFamous alums include country music stars Riley Green and Randy Owens. Green played football for the Gamecocks.
Jacksonville State was founded in 1883, mainly as a teachers college. It took the name as Jacksonville State University in 1966, the fourth name it has gone by in its history. The school now boasts an enrollment more than 10,000 students for the 2025-26 school year, a first in school history.
