The Montreal Canadiens have an exciting young team that has surged into the second round of the playoffs.
But as they take on the Buffalo Sabres, at least one exciting talent is missing: Patrik Laine.
Laine just turned 28 years old last month, but this has not been the favorite season of the former No. 2 overall pick.
He has appeared in just five games, notching a single assist.
That's a long way from his early-career 60- and 70-point seasons with the Winnipeg Jets.

The good news for Montreal is that if it wanted to bring Laine off of long-term injured reserve, it could.
"FYI, if he was activated, despite his huge AAV, the Habs would still be playoff-cap compliant," wrote Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin in a new article in early May.
The problem is that no one seems to know what the deal with Laine is. So the bad news is without a new update, it seems unlikely that Laine will play in this postseason.
He'd add to an already potent Montreal power play if he became available.
At this point, though, don't expect anything from Laine. This season has been a total wash for him.
