LSU baseball is struggling this season, currently holding a 23-15 record after losing four straight games, including a sweep by Ole Miss. They recently broke the losing streak with a 4-2 win over Northwestern State and will face No. 7 Texas A&M this weekend.
Where LSU baseball stands in latest NCAA Tournament bracket projections
BATON ROUGE — It's been a tough season for LSU baseball.
And it may have hit its lowest point last week when it lost to Bethune-Cookman last Tuesday followed by getting swept by Ole Miss on the road, marking the first time this season it had lost four straight games.
Jay Johnson and the Tigers (23-15, 6-9 SEC) somewhat bounced back, snapping the skid with a 4-2 win over Northwestern State Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium. But whether or not the Tigers have captured any momentum will be revealed this weekend when it hosts No. 7 Texas A&M (27-7, 9-5) starting Friday night.

LSU currently sits at No. 67 in the RPI, according to Warren Nolan, after the win over the Demonsl. A series victory over A&M would go a long way toward its NCAA Tournament efforts.
Here's where the Tigers stand in the latest regional projections.
This week's NCAA Tournament bracket predictions suggest how close LSU is to not making the field of 64 this season, one year removed from capturing the College World Series championship.
D1Baseball lists the Tigers among the "Last Four In" and has them as a No. 3 seed in the Conway, S.C. Regional with No. 8 national seed Coastal Carolina. That projection would likely set up a rematch of last year's national championship series on the opening weekend of the tournament. Missouri State is the 2-seed and Wofford is the 4-seed.
In Baseball America's latest NCAA Tournament projections, LSU is listed among the "Next Four Out", meaning that it would be the eighth team currently out of making the field of 64. LSU is behind Troy, San Diego and Oklahoma State within that group of teams.
As mentioned above, LSU is No. 67 in RPI, which is five spots better than it was when it started this week after the disastrous weekend in Oxford.
The Tigers' biggest issue is that it's Quad 4 record is 11-5. Johnson's LSU teams have never had five Q4 losses in a season under him. LSU also has a losing Quad 1 record at 6-8. The series against Texas A&M would provide LSU a golden opportunity to get some Q1 victories.
LSU has made the NCAA Tournament all four seasons under Johnson. It has alternated being eliminated during the regional round and winning the national championship.
The Tigers have never been lower than a No. 2 in a regional under Johnson.
