As the Philadelphia 76ers now begin the search to replace the recently departed Daryl Morey as the team's President of Basketball Operations, one has to wonder who the Sixers will look into as candidates to replace him.
There are a number of potential candidates just based on reports that Bob Myers, who will lead the search, will look both internally and externally to replace Morey. When it comes to internal options, Myers can look at GM Elton Brand who has been on the job since 2018 and will certainly be considered an option to replace Morey and lead the basketball operations department.
Myers himself is even an option. The GM of the Golden State Warriors for 111-plus seasons before being hired as president of Harris & Blitzer Sports Entertainment, Myers could certainly run the department in an effort to help the Sixers over the hump and get them past Round 2 for the first time since 2001. He won four championships in Golden State and is another internal option to handle the position.
As far as external options go, a report by ESPN when covering the Chicago Bulls front office search brought up some names that could now be pivoting to Philadelphia. It gives an example of who could be available for the Sixers in their search to replace Morey.
Before the Bulls hired Bryson Graham to be their Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, these were the names that were involved per the ESPN report:
The internal candidates include Elton Brand, the current GM, and Bob Myers, who previously led the Golden State Warriors.
This search is crucial for the Sixers as they aim to improve their performance and advance past the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2001.
While specific names are not mentioned, reports suggest the Sixers could look at candidates previously considered for other front office positions, such as those linked to the Chicago Bulls.
