CLEMSON — Behind coach Dabo Swinney's success at Clemson football has been the support of his parents, wife and children.
Swinney has won two national championships and nine ACC titles at Clemson. He was born to Ervil Swinney and Carol McIntosh on Nov. 20, 1969, in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dabo Swinney married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Swinney, in 1994. They have three sons: Will, Drew and Clay.

Dabo Swinney, 56, was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but raised in Pelham, Alabama. He is the youngest of three boys: Tracy Swinney and Henry Ervil Swinney III. Their parents divorced while Dabo Swinney was in high school.
Tracy Swinney, 62, serves as director of football security and community liaison for Clemson football. He was an Alabama police officer for 25 years before retiring in May 2012.
Dabo Swinney has become estranged with Henry Swinney, 57, who was arrested and charged with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor in April 2022 when he was 53. He was sentenced to four years in prison in November 2024 after pleading guilty and is at Ridgeland Correctional Institution in Ridgeland, South Carolina.

Will, Drew and Clay all played under their dad in their careers.
Will Swinney, 26, played at Clemson from 2017-21, logging 35 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown, and served as the team's starting holder.
Drew Swinney, 26, was a wideout at Clemson from 2018-22, recording 14 catches for 96 yards, and serving as the team's holder on field goals in his final season.
Dabo Swinney's parents are Ervil Swinney and Carol McIntosh.
Dabo Swinney has won two national championships at Clemson.
Dabo Swinney has three sons named Will, Drew, and Clay.

Clay Swinney, 22, is in his fifth year at Clemson and is also the team's holder. The last placekick held by a non-Swinney was Seth Ryan on the final extra point of Clemson’s national championship victory against Alabama in the 2016 season.
Drew Swinney was on Clemson's staff for three seasons, working as a graduate assistant in 2023 and 2024 before being promoted to offensive player development and assistant wide receivers coach roles in 2025. He became Dabo Swinney's first child to leave Clemson for another coaching job after he was hired as Samford's wide receivers coach.
Will Swinney is in his second year as a full-time staff member at Clemson, serving as an offensive player development/assistant wide receivers coach. He was a volunteer offensive assistant in 2024 before joining full time.

Dabo and Kathleen Swinney were friends when he was in the second grade and she was in first grade. They started dating in middle school, then broke up but got back together in high school and dated through college at Alabama. They got married on July 9, 1994.
Kathleen has been critical to Dabo's All In Team Foundation, which has an emphasis in breast cancer prevention. Her sister, Lisa Lamb, died at age 49 in 2014 from breast cancer, and she and her younger sister also carry the BRCA gene mutation after getting early detection.
Over the years, the foundation has donated more than $2.5 million to local hospitals, research teams and organizations focused on breast cancer prevention, research, technology and early detection.
Ervil Swinney died at age 70 in Pelham in August 2015 after battling cancer.
Dabo Swinney's mother is 81 years old and remarried in 1998 with her husband, Larry McIntosh.
