The Taunton Daily Gazette is holding a poll for the High School Girls Athlete of the Week for April 20-26. Voting is open until noon on May 3, allowing fans to support their favorite athletes.
Another week of the spring high school sports season has come and gone in the Greater Taunton area.
Last week, Taunton and Dighton-Rehoboth softball suffered their first losses, with the Falcons falling to the Tigers in a hot-hitting clash of champions before Taunton fell to RI powerhouse La Salle in a nationally-ranked showdown, though had a player reach a career milestone. Bridgewater-Raynham softball run-ruled perennial powerhouse King Philip while Dighton-Rehoboth lacrosse extended its win streak to six, including a victory over Taunton. Taunton track and field had a pair of champions at the Mercury Outdoor Games, including a double winner, while Bridgewater-Raynham track and field had a winner at the MSTCA Warrior Invitational. Bristol Aggie athletes had the week off, so none will be featured in this week's poll.
The Taunton Daily Gazette High School Girls Athlete of the Week for April 13-19 is Bristol-Plymouth lacrosse’s Emma Ericson, receiving 54% of the vote. Bridgewater-Raynham softball’s Sam Clay came in second with 17% while Taunton softball’s Ashlyn Hebert received 11% to finish third.

Oliveira went 2-for-4 with with 4 runs and 6 RBIs off a pair of 3-run home runs against Dighton-Rehoboth.
DeLano tossed all 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and a pair of walks while striking out 5 and went 4-for-4 with a home run, a run and 3 RBIs at the plate against King Philip.
Aldrich went 6-for-6 with 5 runs against Westfield.
Latour tossed 6 shutout innings giving up 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 8 and went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate against Somerset Berkley.
Francis had 5 goals and an assist against Silver Lake.
Papa had 4 goals and 3 assists against Taunton.
Olaniyan won both the shot put (34 feet 5 inches, personal best) and discus (129 feet 10 inches) at the Mercury Outdoor Games.
Strandberg won the high jump (5 feet 2 inches) at the MSTCA Warrior Invitational.
