The New York Mets were swept by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, dropping to 9-19 and losing 15 out of their last 17 games.

With a 9-19 record, New York now has the worst start to a season since 1983, having been swept in four of their last five series and scoring zero or one run in 10 games.

That will not get it done for a team that clearly had high expectations heading into the season, despite the departure of Silver Slugger Pete Alonso.

One common question many ask is what has made the Mets such a bad team through 28 games, but it has more than one simple answer.

What is wrong with the Mets?

The biggest elephant in the room is on the offensive side: as mentioned before, the team has scored only over 1 run in 18 games. Talent is not the problem either, which leads to the next reason.

Whenever a team has the second-largest payroll in the league, the expectations are for the team, preferably the stars, to make the most money to perform and lead the charge, but that has not happened at all.

Even in the games played by Juan Soto, the left fielder has still struggled, as he only has one homer and five RBIs on the season.
