Just hours after her WNBA team fell in a narrow 107-104 loss to the Dallas Wings on Saturday, Clark was in attendance at the Wallen concert that was held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Here is a video that captured the Fever guard walking with Wallen at his concert, which Clark later reposted on her own Instagram profile.
Along with Wallen being a rather controversial character, many WNBA fans had feelings that Clark attended a concert on the same night that she lost a game. Clark also left the game briefly due to back pain, but she would return.
Regardless, some fans on social media were not happy that Clark associated herself with the country singer, who has gotten into a fair amount of trouble in his past.
Adding to his 2016 DUI charge and 2020 public intoxication arrest, a video surfaced in 2021 that showed Wallen using a racial slur. The clip went viral, resulting in the country music artist being suspended by his record label, Big Loud Records.
The Tennessee native appeared on Good Morning America, where he spoke with Michael Strahan, to discuss what had happened in the video.
"I was around some of my friends, and we just ... we say dumb stuff together," Wallen said on the show, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News. "And it was — in our minds, it's playful ... that sounds ignorant, but it -- that's really where it came from ... and it's wrong."
Wallen also came forward, issuing an apology on his personal Instagram page regarding the word he was recorded using.
Following the incident that year, Wallen cancelled his summer tour and was banned from the 2021 Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards shows.
In 2022, Wallen made his award-show return at that year's Billboard Music Awards. Sean “Diddy” Combs served as host and executive producer of the awards show and was the one responsible for bringing Wallen back to the stage.
“The mood of the show is about love and forgiveness. As a musical family, none of us are saints; none of us are without things that happen to them in life,” Combs said to Billboard. “So one of the things I’m doing directly is un-canceling the canceled. That’s breaking news because people haven’t been about uncanceling. But canceling is a trend that needs to stop.”
