It finally happened.
After heavy speculation, the New York Giantssigned former Detroit Lions starting defensive tackle DJ Reader to a multi-year deal.
āThe New York Giants have agreed to a two-year, $12.5 million contract sign veteran defensive tackle DJ Reader,ā ESPNās Jeremy Fowler stated Tuesday. āReader can make up to $15.5 million through incentives, the source told Fowler.ā
āThe move comes more than two weeks after the Giants traded standout defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II to the Cincinnati Bengals for the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft. New York also drafted Bobby Jamison-Travis in the sixth round last month.ā
D.J. Reader's contract with the Giants is worth $12.5 million over two years, with the potential to earn up to $15.5 million through incentives.

For a minute, it appeared that Reader could sign with a different franchise, as NFL insider Jordan Shultz recently reported that there were other teams in the mix for the 31-year-old veteran.
However, itās clear New York presented Reader with an offer/opportunity he couldnāt refuse. Reader recorded 28 tackles with the Detroit Lions last season before entering free agency this offseason. For his career (138 total games), Reader has logged 328 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.
Signing the Clemson product will bolster the New Giantsā DT depth following the departure of Lawrence. Of course, New Yorkās roster is still flawed, but the four-time Super Bowl champions deserve ample credit for addressing a noticeable defensive weakness in early May.
