Izan Guevara is being linked with a move to MotoGP with Pramac Yamaha for the 2027 season, so here is everything that you need to know about the Spanish rider in Moto2.
Guevara’s route into the sport started with junior categories in Spain, and over the years, he has gradually risen through the ranks. He may not have been an instant sensation, but by 2021, he was starting to make a name for himself, and within a year, he had taken his first world championship title.
Having joined Aspar’s Moto3 team for 2021 alongside Sergio Garcia – who finished third that year – Guevara claimed his maiden Grand Prix win at COTA and built up momentum. In 2022, he won seven of the final eleven races of the season and claimed the championship with a round to spare. But then things took a downturn as he struggled to adapt after moving up to Moto2.
It wasn’t until around two years into his time in Moto2 that Guevara really found his feet again. By then, Ayumu Sasaki had joined him at Honda Team Asia under Hiroshi Aoyama. Together, they found a good pace in pre-season testing before putting together an excellent opening five rounds.

After building up experience on several national circuits like Monteblanco during 2018 and 2019, it wasn’t until 2020 that Guevara started grabbing people’s attention when he won six races en route to taking the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship title.
The following year saw him break into Grand Prix racing proper after signing with Aspar’s team in both junior classes. Despite being younger than many of his competitors – just three months past turning sixteen – he held his own against more experienced riders throughout his rookie season.
Yamaha are considering a direct promotion for Guevara from Moto2 to their factory MotoGP team, drawing comparisons to the path taken by Fabio Quartararo. Guevara’s impressive form in the intermediate class, especially with Pramac Yamaha, has caught the eye of the Iwata outfit.
His early days in Moto2 were tough following his 2022 Moto3 title win at just 18. The transition to the Kalex chassis wasn’t smooth, but things started to click when he moved to Pramac Yamaha in 2025 and switched over to the Boscoscuro frame.
The Boscoscuro wasn’t as competitive as the Kalex that year, but Guevara managed to get more out of it than most. He picked up his first podium in Indonesia and went on to close out the season with a win in Valencia.
That victory didn’t just cap off his year – it also earned him a reward. As promised by Pramac boss Gino Borsoi, winning their first race got Guevara a chance to test Yamaha’s YZR-M1 right there in Valencia.
He also picked up his first Moto3 Grand Prix win late in his rookie year, at the 2021 Americas Grand Prix, which helped set him up for his title run the following season. Guevara ended the 2022 campaign with seven wins and 12 podiums from 20 races, taking the championship by a comfortable margin of 62 points.
There’s been a pattern to Guevara’s title runs, too. Even back in 2019, he took six wins from ten races to claim the European Talent Cup as a rookie. And in 2020, he won five out of eleven races on his way to the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship.
While Acosta had more immediate success in other series around that time, like the Red Bull Rookies Cup and later Moto3 itself, Guevara stayed consistent on his path through Junior Moto3. His steady rise has now put him in a position where teams are looking at him as a future star.
MotoGP News takes a look back through Guevara’s career so far and how he came into view for Yamaha.
As of June 2026, Izan Guevara is 21 years old. He was born on June 28, 2004.
Izan Guevara hails from Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic Islands in Spain, which also makes him Spanish.
Izan Guevara is 173cm tall, which converts to 5 feet 8 inches.
Gino Borsoi has long been an admirer of Izan Guevara, and he even likened the Spanish ace to MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi after his charge to the Moto3 title in the 2022 campaign.
Borsoi told MARCA in 2022: “I think he’s quite similar to Valentino Rossi, because of the way he rides the bike, his constant desire to win, and also a little bit because of the way he lives in the paddock with the team.
“He’s always laughing, always joking around. He doesn’t work as much as he should, that is the reality, but his talent makes up for everything. He doesn’t work as much as Valentino did back in the day. When I see him, I say, ‘He looks like a copy of Valentino’.”
MARCA also quoted Jorge Martinez Aspar hailing Guevara for his ability to take on board any feedback and quickly put what he learned into practice. Even in 2022 after Guevara won his Moto3 title, Aspar felt he had shown greater potential than Francesco Bagnaia at that age.
“Obviously, his incredible talent never ceases to amaze us,” Aspar said. “The naturalness and ease with which he does things, and how he adapts to every circumstance. He’s a rider who listens a lot, and who grows and progresses at an incredible rate.
“Motegi, Thailand or Australia are circuits he’d never been to before, and he’s evolving at an astonishing pace. From one day to the next, you correct things for him, and he grows in an incredible way…
“Without a doubt, he’s going to reach MotoGP, and if he continues his current trajectory, there’s no question that he’ll be a rider to watch in MotoGP very soon.
“Honestly, more than 60 World Championship riders have come through the Aspar Team, and without a doubt, Izan is a top rider, like Pecco Bagnaia or even better!”.
