LAWRENCE āĀ Kansas basketball announced the signing of Atticus Richmond on Tuesday, adding the incoming freshman forward to the teamās roster for this upcoming season.
Richmond, listed at 6-foot-8 and 230 pounds, was at The Newman School in Massachusetts. With his arrival, a high-profile class of 2026 for the Jayhawks continues to grow. Itās one that includes the No. 1 overall prospect in Tyran Stokes.

āAtticus is a youngster that has great size,ā Self said. āHe has some perimeter skills but mainly plays inside and will add depth to our big man positions. Heās been extremely well coached and well drilled. I look at him as a Mitch Lightfoot type when Mitch was coming to us out of high school.ā
KU fans will remember Lightfoot, as he developed into a key rotation member of the team that went on to win a national championship in 2022. The Jayhawks will be chasing more Big 12 Conference and national success with the 2026-27 season, too. They havenāt advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament since that national title run.
This past season, Kansas advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament and the round of 32 of the NCAA tournament. It finished 24-11 overall, with some impressive victories but enough inconsistency that it didnāt quite reach the potential that it came into the season with. Richmond will be part of a group that aims to exceed those efforts.
