Being a WWE musical guest can go a multitude of ways.
There have been some good performances, like when bands will play the entrance song for wrestlers live. And there have also been some bad live performances, like the one Hardy had at the 2023 Royal Rumble.
The variance could come from the artist's actual performance, and from how many fans are into the artist and what is being sung. A safe bet has been to have bigger artists stick to the national anthem. It is easy to do, and hard to mess up.
For WrestleMania 42, the Night 1 anthem singer has been kept quiet, but the Night 2 national anthem singer to open the show is a well-known musician. Joe Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, will be serenading the crowd with the Star-Spangled Banner on Sunday, April 19.
Here is more on why Jonas is singing the National Anthem at WrestleMania 42.

The WWE has a history of having a well-known musician or group perform either the national anthem or another song during WrestleMania. Previous acts include Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Snoop Dogg, MGK & Skyler Grey and Jelly Roll. Pop star Ava Max sang the national anthem ahead of Night 2 in 2025, and Jelly Roll sang God Bless America at Night 1.
Having a well-known musician sing the national anthem isn't a huge part of the show, but it is another thing for fans to look forward to on the night. It also helps the event feel bigger than a normal Premium Live Event (PLE).

Following the announcement that Jonas would be the national anthem singer for Night 2, he shared the post on his official X account and said he is a "certified lifelong WWE super fan."
While the WWE is known for featuring celebrities in the crowd at events, there is no information available on Jonas being a "lifelong" fan. That doesn't mean he isn't, but he just doesn't have a history of posting about it.
Joe Jonas is singing the National Anthem at WrestleMania 42 because he is a lifelong WWE fan and his performance is part of the event's entertainment.
The challenges include the variability of live performances and audience reception, as some performances can be well-received while others may not.
Musical performances at WrestleMania have varied widely, with some artists delivering memorable renditions while others have faced criticism for their performances.
