Why Liverpool want to agree deal for failed Tottenham Hotspur star

There have been plenty of reports of late suggesting Liverpool are in for Randal Kolo Muani. Now, the caveat here is that all the reports have come from Italy and it's very possible that they're merely a method to increase pressure on Juventus - also interested in the player - to get a deal done.

But let's pretend that definitely not the case. Instead, let's see why Liverpool might be interested in a forward who has, in no uncertain terms, failed in the Premier League.

Kolo Muani has one league goal this season and that's on the back of 17 starts and 25 total appearances. A truly shocking return from a France international and someone who featured in the last FIFA World Cup final.

So again, why would Liverpool want that? The answer is that they're after a very specific type of forward right now and Kolo Muani is one of the few who fit the bill.

Hugo Ekitike's injury has left them in the lurch. They're overreliant on Alexander Isak to lead the line for them - a player who has struggled badly for any sort of form since arriving at the club.

Ekitike is out potentially into 2027 and that means Liverpool need some sort of cover. At the same time, they're not looking to Ekitike - they need someone who can offer a starting role for a long time but, essentially, fill the role of squad player.
