The Pittsburgh Steelers still donât know who their starting quarterback will be this season. Thereâs a good chance that Aaron Rodgers will return for one more season, but even if he does play again, they need to look to draft a quarterback as well.
Rodgers is 42 years old, which means that if he does play this season, heâll probably only have one more left in him. Sports Illustrated's Mike Kadlick pointed out why he believes the Steelers need to add a quarterback in this year's draft.
"The Aaron Rodgers waiting game canât be a fun one for the Steelers. As we approach the 2026 draft, Pittsburgh still doesnât have an answer on whether Rodgers intends to return, and even if the idea of him reuniting with Mike McCarthy is a fun one, the reality is: Heâs 42 years old, meaning this coming season could very well be his last. For real this time," Kadlick wrote on Monday.
"With veteran Mason Rudolph and second-year pro Will Howard currently the only quarterbacks on their roster, the Steelers need some form of long-term hope at the position heading into this season."
The Steelers don't necessarily need to draft a quarterback in the first round, but if they decide to, adding Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson could be a solid choice.
Simpson could spend a season sitting behind Rodgers and then take over the keys to the car starting in 2027.
