Arvid Lindblad of Racing Bulls received a pitlane penalty for not covering his car after sprint qualifying, resulting in a DNS due to a technical issue. He was set to start from the pitlane but failed to begin the race.
Racing Bulls F1 driver Arvid Lindblad was set to start the sprint race from the pitlane due to an error reportedly committed by his team, despite securing a P15 start in the sprint qualifying. Unfortunately, the rookie driver failed to start from the pits due to a reported technical issue, leading to a DNS.
F1 teams are required to cover their cars after the sprint qualifying session, and not doing so warrants a penalty. For unknown reasons, Racing Bulls failed to cover Lindblad’s VCARB03 F1 car last night.
As a result, F1’s governing body, the FIA, handed out a penalty. It stated:
“Not covering the car after a Sprint Qualifying session is a breach of Article B3.4.2 a).
“Therefore, car 41 should now be required to start the Sprint from the pit lane according to Article B3.5.3 b) of the 2026 Formula 1 Sporting Regulations.”
In addition, Racing Bulls also broke curfew the previous night. However, the FIA did not hand the team a penalty since teams are handed four exemptions in a season, and this was the first out of the four. The FIA stated:
“Last night team personnel of the VISA Cash App Racing Bulls Formula One Team, who are associated with the operation of the car, were within the confines of the circuit during the twelve (12) hours and fourtysix (46) minutes period which commenced at 20:14 on 01 May, fifteen (15) hours and fourtysix (46) minutes before the scheduled start time of P3 and ends three (3) hours before the scheduled start time of the Sprint at 09:00 on 02 May.”
Arvid Lindblad received a pitlane penalty because Racing Bulls failed to cover his car after the sprint qualifying session, violating F1 regulations.
