The Boston Red Sox are desperate for offense, but trading for Mike Trout isn't the answer.
On 98.5 The Sports Hub on Tuesday, radio host Mike Felger dropped a bombshell rumor from an unnamed source that the Red Sox may be interested in trading for Trout.
"Don't be surprised if we end up with Mike Trout," Felger's source told him. "He's 100 years old, but they believe he is a better leader than (Alex) Bregman and will hit a ton of home runs at Fenway Park."
As Jared Carrabis explained on Tuesday's episode of "The Baseball Hour" with Tony Massarotti, acquiring the Los Angeles Angels superstar is a bad idea for numerous reasons.
For starters, he's 34 and has been ravaged by injuries in recent years, averaging just 75 games played over the last six seasons.
Experts believe that acquiring Mike Trout could hinder the Red Sox's long-term success and not effectively address their offensive issues.
A trade for Trout could lead to significant roster changes and financial implications that may negatively impact the team's future.

Not surprisingly, all of those injuries have taken a toll on his performance as well. After posting a career 1.002 OPS through 2022, his OPS has been .844 since then.
Furthermore, Trout is still owed a ton of money. He still has roughly $178 million remaining on his contract, which runs through his age-38 season in 2030.
As an outfielder and designated hitter, Trout isn't a good fit for Boston's roster, either. The team already has too many outfielders and DHs. If they're going to pursue a bat, it should be in the infield.
Trout's having a resurgence this year and used to be one of the best all-around players in baseball, but those days are over. He's still a dangerous hitter, albeit an aging, expensive and injury-prone one.
A decade ago, trading for Trout would have been a franchise-altering move and a no-brainer. Now, however, it's far too risky and not worth the Red Sox's time or resources.
Boston needs to acquire a big bat and could use some star power, but Trout isn't the right target at this stage of his career.
