The Colorado Rockies aren't going to be World Series or postseason contenders this season, which isn't a surprise at all. Once again, they'll be sellers.
And this season, they have a very interesting trade chip they could part with and actually get a fairly defensive return for. Former Philadelphia Phillies 1st overall pick Mickey Moniak has been breaking out this season as a true star player in MLB.
And, as Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter highlighted, the time is now for the Rockies to trade Moniak and sell high. But why now?
"For a Rockies team going nowhere, selling high with a year and a half of control remaining is the best way to maximize his value," Reuter writes.
While the Rockies have another year of control and could try to keep him and make him a mainstay of the roster, he's the exact kind of player the team should deal.

Moniak has been good, but there's no telling if he'll regress to his prior production. Add in that his value likely won't get any higher, and selling him now makes the most sense.
That extra year of control will also grant the Rockies a better return in a trade as well, as they could get an outfield-needy team spending a decent amount to acquire Moniak this year.
He has a .303 batting average with 11 homers in 119 at-bats this season. An NL-leading .655 slugging percentage and a 1.004 OPS are far from sustainable for Moniak. His career average coming into the season was just a .724 OPS.
He is under control for 1.5 seasons, so the Rockies should land a solid return for the former Phillies 1st overall pick. There might not be a more obvious sell-high candidate around Major League Baseball this season.
