The NBA Draft lottery went the way of the Washington Wizards. They won the No. 1 overall pick in the stacked 2026 edition.
Now, the Wizards have to decide what to do, and the idea of trading the pick isn't a terrible one.
For their part, the Washington front office isn't opposed to making a deal:
It's actually a decent idea, if done a certain way.

The Wizards shouldn't trade the pick for a veteran.
They should just trade down a few spots.
This draft has what many consider a clear top-three, but let's expand it to how some believe it is a top-four: AJ Dybantsa (BYU), Darryn Peterson (Kansas), Cameron Boozer (Duke) and Caleb Wilson (UNC).
If another team wants one of those guys more than anyone else, they might be willing to trade up. So if any of the Nos. 2-4 picks wanted to move, that'd be ideal. The Wizards would still get a top-notch player, and they'd get some other asset out of the deal.
The Wizards believe trading the pick could be beneficial for their team's future, allowing them to acquire established talent or multiple assets.
Trading the No. 1 pick could provide the Wizards with immediate help through experienced players or additional draft picks to build a stronger roster.
While specific targets are not mentioned, the Wizards could seek established players or a package of assets from teams looking to draft a top prospect.

Even further down in the top-10, the Wizards could land a great point guard like Kingston Flemings, Keaton Wagler, Darius Acuff or Brayden Burries.
Sure, the Wizards could stay at the top and draft the guy they want the most. But if they like a lot of these prospects, then a trade could grab an extra asset in the process.
