The wife of the Texas high school track coach who was hit in the head with a shot put is sharing an update on his condition.
Leslie Crutsinger says her husband Blake Crutsinger is continuing to recover, four days after a “freak accident” at a state track meet near Tyler.
Blake, an assistant coach for track and football at Ponder High School, suffered a skull fracture and brain swelling after the approximately 12-pound metal ball struck him in the head on Saturday, May 2.
“There was no CT scan last night,” Leslie began in her post on Facebook on Wednesday, May 6. “[The nurse] said the EEG was complete and read and it only shows general slowing which is normal for a head injury, but doesn’t show seizure activity. GREAT NEWS! He looks good and the face and eye swelling on his left side have gone down.”

Blake’s recovery comes as the Ponder community has united in support for the beloved coach.
“Please join us in lifting up Coach Crutsinger and his family in your thoughts and prayers following an accident at the Regional Track Meet,” the school district, located about 60 miles northwest of Dallas, .
