Wild says Tranmere have not yet earned survival

Tranmere Rovers have not yet pulled off survival in League Two boss Pete Wild has said, despite a morale-boosting win against Cheltenham Town on Tuesday.

Tuesday's result ended a 12-game run without a victory and means Wild's side are now four points clear of Barrow and Harrogate Town in the bottom two, with two games remaining.

On Saturday, Tranmere face promotion-chasing MK Dons and they end their campaign by welcoming Grimsby Town to Prenton Park a week on Saturday.

"That puts the pressure back on the people below us and they're probably looking at the result and going, 'where have they pulled that from?'," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It chucks the ball. It's been us that's been under pressure for weeks on end and now it chucks the pressure back on them.

"It's clearly not done yet and we have to go to MK Dons and dust them down and try and get them to go again because it's going to be a tough ask against a team that can get promoted on Saturday dinnertime."

It has been a difficult season for Tranmere, who appointed Wild on a short-term deal in March after the departure of Andy Crosby earlier this month with the club then losing 11 out of 12 matches, dropping them into a relegation battle.

Tuesday's win against Cheltenham was Wild's first in charge of the club and ends a barren spell during his tenure during which he had lost five of his opening seven games in charge.
