Wisconsin men's basketball missed out on Alabama guard Davion Hannah, who has chosen to transfer to South Carolina. Hannah, a Milwaukee native, previously played for the Crimson Tide but faced injury challenges last season.
While the Wisconsin Badgers may have been linked to Alabama guard Davion Hannah, the 6-foot-6 guard chose South Carolina as his new home.
Hannah, a Milwaukee native, was recruited by the Badgers coming out of high school. Fresh off his freshman campaign with the Crimson Tide, Greg Gard wasn't able to pull the trigger and bring him back to his home state.
On3's Joe Tipton revealed that Hannah will now head to the Gamecocks, which is an interesting decision that keeps him in the SEC. Even though Hannah has experience playing AAU with Zach Kinzginer, someone the Badgers know will be returning for the 2026-27 season, he'll look to stick it to an Alabama team that had him averaging just 12.7 minutes per game.
There still is a big unknown with Hannah as he played just 10 games last year due to tailbone and back issues. Gard is as poised as it gets, so it's clear he's content with the tremendous work he's done in the portal thus far.
At the end of the day, bringing in another guard wasn't super high on Wisconsin's priority list. Sure, it would've been nice to see Hannah play for the Badgers, but he's still extremely young, and that door is still open for his junior or senior seasons.

Davion Hannah chose South Carolina likely due to the opportunity to continue playing in the SEC and possibly for a fresh start after limited playing time at Alabama.
Davion Hannah averaged just 12.7 minutes per game during his time at Alabama, playing only 10 games last season due to injuries.
Hannah's transfer to South Carolina leaves Wisconsin without a key recruit, but Coach Greg Gard remains focused on strengthening the team's roster through other portal acquisitions.
