Not landing Donovan Davis definitely stings, but there's another notable in-state recruit in the class of 2027 that Wisconsin can target.
Jack Kohnen is a 6-foot-6 small forward who plays for Slinger High School. Currently, he's the 247Sports No. 3 player in the state. Overall, he's Rivals' No. 30 overall player.
In an interview with Jamie Shaw (subscription required), Kohnen broke down where things stand with the Badgers.
"I mean, it’s my home state. Just the idea of staying at home and playing for your state, it’s kind of just a childhood thing that you just wanted to do since you were little," Kohnen told Shaw.
He continued, "He’s [Greg Gard] proven that he’s been able to adapt to the players on each team that he has. They’re always one of the best teams in the Big Ten, which is kind of the thing with all these schools; they’re all winning programs. That is what I want to walk into.”
According to Kohnen, he's heard from Iowa State, Iowa, and Nebraska the most. In addition, he's heard from Notre Dame and Wisconsin, "a little too."
Fresh off a visit with the Cornhuskers, this seems like another battle for a top in-state recruit where Gard is behind the eight ball. No one can deny how great his international recruiting has been, but eventually, the Badgers need to consistently win the battle for these Wisconsin natives.
