The Yankees ended a four-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory over the Orioles, highlighted by a five-run third inning. The team is dealing with infield issues, including Jazz Chisholm Jr. being benched and Jose Caballero placed on the injured list due to a fractured finger.

BALTIMORE â This was a dizzy exercise, following the Yankeesâ infield drama all day Tuesday.
Above all, the Yankees were propelled by a five-run third inning, sending them to a 6-2 win against the Orioles at Camden Yards to break a four-game losing streak.
And now back to âAs The Infield Turns,â with slumping Jazz Chisholm Jr. benched Tuesday, Jose Caballero placed on the injured list and Anthony Volpe back from beyond.
Back in New York, Caballero discovered via MRI that he had a small fracture to his right middle finger, which he jammed into first base on a slide Sunday at Milwaukee.
Something of an expert on fractured fingers (this is his fifth, but his first on this finger), âIâm really disappointed,ââ said Caballero, who argued against being placed on the IL.

âJust feel like I could be back sooner,ââ said Caballero, who returned to Baltimore and added that 10 days on the IL is âthe max Iâm taking.ââ
The Yankees won the game against the Orioles with a score of 6-2.
Jose Caballero was placed on the injured list due to a small fracture in his right middle finger.
Before this win, the Yankees were on a four-game losing streak.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. was benched during the game against the Orioles.

Heâs on a no-hit, no-throw restriction for 5-7 days, eligible to return on May 22, and Aaron Boone agrees that Caballero could be back around that time.
Boone also said he expects Caballero to resume being the Yanks starting shortstop at that time.
âI didnât know that. But that means a lot,ââ said Caballero. âI want to help the team and be a part of it and contribute to get wins.ââ
So does Volpe, whoâll get that opportunity in Caballeroâs absence, without any further guarantees.
âIf I learned anything,ââ Volpe said of being optioned to Triple-A after his minor league rehab stint (labrum surgery recovery) ended, itâs âthereâs things I canât control.ââ
Caballeroâs impact and two-way play earned him a continued run at shortstop, and this could be a 10-day cameo for Volpe â or not.
But Volpe isnât looking beyond the Yanksâ next game.
âFeels great to be back,ââ said Volpe, who drove from Scranton and arrived around Tuesday nightâs first pitch.

Volpe was grateful for Yankees teammates who âmade me feel like Iâm part of it, even though I wasnât,ââ and for Oswaldo Cabreraâs âpositivity and perspectiveââ at Triple-A.
âI just had to take it and go to work. Work to get back here,ââ Volpe said of being optioned. âI didnât know how long or short (of a stay).
But ultimately, âweâve got games to win and a season to (play),ââ said Volpe. âI like to think I work really hard so I donât ever put myself in that position again. But I got back here and Iâm excited to go.ââ
Chisholm probably goes back in the lineup at second base for Wednesdayâs finale.
On Tuesday night, Amed Rosario made an error at second base but also beat out an RBI infield hit â after Cody Bellinger beat the relay on a potential inning-ending DP â that set up Trent Grishamâs three-run homer off lefty Trevor Rogers in the pivotal third inning.
The Yanksâ infield also did a circus act in the Orioles third, with shortstop Max Schuemann botching the feed on a potential double play ball and third baseman Ryan McMahon throwing to the wrong infielder on another potential DP.
But Will Warren escaped any damage withâŠa double play grounder. âI was pretty pumped up,ââ said Warren, who pitched into the sixth.

In a 3-for-24 slide with 11 strikeouts, Chisholm wouldnât say he was pressing, or dwelling about his free agent status this fall, or overswinging.
âIâve been definitely at my 70 percent swing,ââ said Chisholm, his phrase for being in a good rhythm.
âJust trying to do the things I did last year,ââ when he was a 30-30 (homers, steals) player, but âsometimes itâs going well, sometimes itsâ not.ââ
Itâs not for lack of work, but âwhen youâre not producing for your team, it (stinks),ââ said Chisholm, who grounded out as a pinch-hitter Tuesday, putting his average at .200.
âHeâs such a talented guy,ââ said Ben Rice, who feels that Chisholm is âgoing to find his rhythm and heâs going to be really fun to watch when it happens.ââ
In the meantime, Chisholm is rooting for Volpe.
âI feel like heâs a tough kid, heâs played a whole season injured (2025) andâŠstuck it out for us and we made the playoffs.
âI feel like this is what heâs made for,ââ Chisholm said of his friend Volpe. âHe knows New York better than anybody.
âHeâs from Jersey, so I feel like heâs going to be all right,ââ said Chisholm, telling Volpe how heâs âbuilt for thisââ moment.
And from moment to moment, anything is capable of changing with the Yankees' infield.
