I guess Cassandre Prosper knew what shew was doing after all. Shortly after the Notre Dame Womenâs Basketball teamâs season was ended with an Elite 8 loss, Prosper announced that she was forgoing her final year of eligibility at Notre Dame to enter the WNBA Draft. While a lot of people looked at this as more of a disappointment for the Irish team next season, some wondered if this decision was a little too hasty.
Well⊠it wasnât hasty. Itâs a disappointment for the Irish next season for sure, but for Prosper, being selected by the Washington Mystics with the #19 overall pick is a phenomenal success.
Mystics Select Prosper With No. 19 Overall Pick In 2026 WNBA Draft
NEW YORK â After a successful undergraduate career at Notre Dame, Cassandre Prosper is on to the WNBA. The Montreal native was selected by the Washington Mystics on Monday with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
Prosper, just the second early enrollee in program history, joined Notre Dame in December 2022 and is coming off her best season to date. This year, Prosper started in all 36 of Notre Dameâs games and was named the ACCâs Most Improved Player. She also earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team.
The 6-3 wing averaged 13.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game, all career-highs. She shot 49.2 percent from the floor and 73.8 percent from the free throw line. Her name peppered the ACC rankings â field goal percentage (eighth), field goals (eighth), total points (11th) and blocks per game (17th). She did not rank in the top 20 in the conference in any category prior to this season.
Additionally, Prosper scored 10+ points in 27 games, recorded six double-doubles and had six showings of 20+ points. She earned USBWA National Player of the Week honors twice, joining teammate Hannah Hidalgo as the only ACC players to accomplish the feat more than once during the year.
Over the course of her career, Prosper played in 97 games, making 43 starts. She averaged 8.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, finishing her Irish career with 842 total points and 465 total rebounds.
Prosper is the 24th player in Notre Dame history to be drafted, and the third to be drafted by Mystics. She is the fourth WNBA draft selection under Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Womenâs Basketball Coach Niele Ivey, joining Sonia Citron (Washington Mystics), Liatu King (Los Angeles Sparks) and Maddy Westbeld (Chicago Sky).
In her final season, Cassandre Prosper averaged 13.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game, all of which were career-highs.
Cassandre Prosper announced her decision to enter the WNBA Draft after her team's season ended in the Elite 8, believing it was the right move for her career despite concerns about her leaving Notre Dame early.
Cassandre Prosper is the 24th player in Notre Dame history to be drafted into the WNBA.
