Andre Baccellia's five-year tenure with the Arizona Cardinals ends as he is released due to a failed physical after suffering a neck injury. He played 18 games during his time with the team, mostly on the practice squad.
The Arizona Cardinals made a roster move on Thursday that ends the tenure of a player who had stuck around for years. While announcing the signing of three of their draft picks, they released receiver Andre Baccellia.
Per the league transaction report, he was released with a failed physical designation. Baccellia suffered a neck injury late last season and landed on injured reserve, ending his season after playing five games.
Baccellia spent five years with the Cardinals, mostly on the practice squad, but always managing to find his way on the team in some way.
In his time with the Cardinals, he appeared in 18 games, starting twice, and had nine total receptions for 50 yards. He also averaged 25.8 yards on 10 career kick returns with a long of 43 yards last season.
Baccellia was known as an ultimate team guy. He knew everyone and was with the team long enough that he was the go-to guy for information. Receiver Simi Fehoko said Baccellia was the locker room glue guy.
Hopefully once he is healthy he can land with another team or back with the Cardinals. It isn't often that a 5-10, 180-pound receiver can stick around in the NFL for five years, but he has managed to do it.
