The biggest weekend in wrestling is finally upon us.
The WWE is heading back to Las Vegas, Nevada for WrestleMania 42, which will be held across Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. The two-day event is bookended by Friday Night SmackDown and Monday Night Raw, creating four straight days of action.
The focal point will obviously be Night 1 and Night 2 of WrestleMania over the weekend. This is like the WWE's Super Bowl and is where months of storylines are supposed to come to a head while the company sets its direction for a new year.
This year's build for WrestleMania has been heavily criticized for lack of compelling storylines, but that can all be washed away if the payoffs on the show end up being good. Between the two days, there are seven total championship matches.
Here is everything to know about the confirmed match card for WrestleMania 42.
MORE: Full WrestleMania week schedule
WrestleMania is when all the built-up storylines from the last three-plus months come to an end. Many times, this involves several title fights, and that is the case this year. There are currently 11 championships between the Raw and SmackDown brands, and eight of them will be contested between the two nights.
The main event for Night 1 has been extremely criticized from the build. The two competitors are fine, but for some reason, both Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll have been included in the build and will likely be ringside for the match. If Orton loses, supposedly McAfee will disappear from the WWE forever.
YouTuber iShowSpeed has been included in the storyline between The Vision and The Usos, and it results in LA Knight visiting him while he was streaming and throwing him into his setup.
Seth Rollins and Gunther will duke it out, with Gunther taking this match as a favor to Paul Heyman. Gunther has said that if he wins, he wants something from Heyman, which could set up a big match in the future if fan predictions are right.
For those wondering about the stipulation between Fatu and McIntyre. An unsanctioned match is just a fancy term for a no-disqualification match. It is expected to precede a very violent match, as the company claims no liability for their safety. It sounds intense, but it's really just a no-disqualification match where the wrestlers can do whatever they need to win.
The second night of the card is just as jam-packed. The placement of the Femi-Lesnar match is going to be interesting. There are rumors that it will actually precede the start time of the card to hype the main card, but that would be a horrible decision. This is one of the few matches fans are hype for, and it needs to be featured on the card.
From all the matchups, there are only three that are more than a 1-on-1 match. The men's Intercontinental Championship will be a ladder match, and the participants must keep fans excited. Penta, Evans, Lee and even McDonagh are going to have the chance to be very creative in this bout.
Sami Zayn made a career from being a fan favorite and an underdog, but the fan base has largely soured on him. Trick Williams could win his first main roster gold in this match, with the support of Lil Yachty.
Finn Balor vs. Dominik Mysterio will be a good match. After years, Balor is finally resurrecting his "Demon" alter ego in this match. He was kicked out of The Judgment Day, and this should be a good match that fans are into, especially given the alter ego inclusion, even if it would've worked better as a surprise.
The main event of Night 2 will feature CM Punk taking on Roman Reigns. It is kind of surprising that both main event title matches of the weekend don't have gimmicks and are just 1-on-1 fights, even if McAfee and Jelly Roll will be there Saturday night.
MORE: Was "The Rock" good at football?
One of the interesting rumors about WrestleMania 42 involves former NFL quarterback Tom Brady. There was a random moment when Logan Paul said he would fight any football player or athlete who wanted to try to do what he has been able to do. Brady responded that wrestlers are cute, but it wasn't like playing football. This led several wrestlers to disagree with the NFL's GOAT.
This back-and-forth continued for weeks, with Rob Gronkowski joining the conversation. Then all of a sudden, the build stopped until the week of WrestleMania. It didn't come back up until Charlotte Flair appeared on an ESPN talk show, when she brought it back up and invited Brady to the show.
WrestleMania is being held at Allegiant Stadium, so it wouldn't be surprising if Brady does show. They could even throw together a quick match for Night 2 if they needed to. Have an altercation take place on Night 1, then have Gronk fight Paul on Night 2, with Brady in his former tight end's corner. It just felt like it was definitely a work, and then there wasn't a build, so maybe they are saving it for SummerSlam or just canceled the plans altogether.
There is usually some sort of surprise or return either at WrestleMania or the Monday Night Raw directly following. The biggest thing to look for this weekend would be the return of Bianca Belair. She has been sidelined for almost a year and could return this weekend.
The confirmed matches for WrestleMania 42 Night 1 and Night 2 have been announced, showcasing key matchups that fans can expect.
WrestleMania 42 is scheduled for April 18 and 19, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
