Welcome to WrestleMania 42, Night One. WWE's signature event took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the second straight year. The typical build took place toward the Saturday and Sunday cards, some of which didn't leave the WWE Universe thrilled (Pat McAfee). Before the action started, John Cena entered the ring as host. He got the crowd fired up and was perfect in setting the mood for the entire evening.
There were a couple of surprise returns, a baby announcement, and a split evening of decisions for Mr. and Mrs. Seth Rollins.
The opening bout on the card saw the expected team win, with help from one of the underwhelming parts of the losing team. IShowSpeed was the logical candidate to be pinned by The Usos and LA Knight. Instead, his role was to turn on his team.
IShowSpeed "accidentally" pushed Knight into Logan Paul, and the ladder fell off the ring apron. Austin Theory then became upset with Speed, who was then sent into Theory, setting up Knight's finishing hold and a pinfall win.
There were chairs and tool boxes involved in this match along with the usual things one can find in the ladder. McIntyre actually ripped the belt off the ref and used it on Fatu in this match where anything went.
The wrestlers each kicked out of the other's finishing hold. Because this was broadcast on ESPN2, one can assume that is why neither McIntyre nor Fatu wound up bleeding, which would be commonplace in such a match.
In the end, McIntyre once again was on the losing side. It seems to be married to his character. Fatu used a couple of superkicks to set up a moonsault off the ropes that put McIntyre through a table. Fatu covered McIntyre for the win.
The big "surprise" happened before the match. Nikki Bella came to the ring with her sister but was on a crutch and in a walking boot. She had not been cleared to compete. As had been speculated in the day before WrestleMania 42, Paige returned to WWE.
In the end, Alexa Bliss tried for her finishing hold but Paige got her knees into her opponent. Paige then used her finisher, "RamPaige"
And the title bounces back and forth. This night was Becky "The Man" Lynch's turn to win the belt. Lynch wound up driving Lee into an exposed turnbuckle after the former used the ref as a shield. One "Man-handle Slam" later and Lynch was champion again.
Cody Rhodes retained his title, and Becky Lynch won her match during WrestleMania 42 Night One.

Bad night for Seth Rollins after his wife, Becky Lynch, just won the IC Championship. Gunther continued his run of ruining WWE legends. The bigger news might have been during the match when the ref was checking out Gunther. Out of nowhere came the returning Bron Breakker, who speared Rollins into the barricade. Gunther put Rollins in a sleeper hold and the latter went out.
A different kind of return but the same result. Liv Morgan won the championship by defeating Stephanie Vaquer. She did so despite a knot on her forehead and black eyes. There was the usual chaos and interference as Roxanne Perez and Rachel Rodriguez got involved in the action. In the end, Morgan hit her finishers, won the title and celebrated with Dominik Mysterio.
Before this match, Bianca Belair came to the ring and surprised the crowd of more than 50,000 -- that was what was announced -- by revealing she was pregnant.
Pat McAfee was annoying. So another WWE crossover star, singer Jelly Roll, took care of the former NFL punter who exited on a stretcher.
Rhodes dominated early and worked over the back of Orton, who has had issues and needed surgery on it a couple of years ago. Orton launched a comeback and began to have the match tilt in his favor.
In the end, Rhodes retained and Orton then pummeled the champion. But too little, too late.
