The first surprise of WrestleMania 42 weekend came at Night 1 in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas when Paige made her WWE return. After an injury to Nicki Bella, sister Brie Bella called on the aid of Paige — a former WWE Diva's Champion — to compete in the Fatal-4-Way Women's Tag Team Championship match against The Irresistible Forces, Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, and Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.
A longtime fan-favorite and the subject of the 2019 film "Fighting with My Family," Paige hadn't wrestled in WWE for eight years. Her most recent wrestling appearances came in AEW, where she held the AEW World Championship. Paige's final WWE work in 2022 saw her function within a general manager role but be unable to wrestle due to a lingering neck injury.
Saturday's championship match itself featured the typical chaos you'd expect from a WrestleMania multi-person match. Similar to the IShowSpeed match to start Night 1, it was built around Paige's eventual hot tag. The returning superstar took out a member of each team upon her entry into the match — a big Fisherman's Suplex planted Bayley, followed by a nice sequence with Valkyria off a Cross-Body roll-through into a Paige Turner. That was nearly all she wrote, but Bayley broke up the pin.
Lash Legend nailed a big Lash Extension on Valkyria. Her pin was broken up by the nostalgic pair of Paige and Flair, who had a great staredown moment before going at it in the middle of the ring. Anyone who knows about Paige knows the extensive history between these two. Ultimately, Paige was planted by a Natural Selection. Bliss went up high for Twisted Bliss, but paused when Nicki Bella distracted outside the ring, allowing for Paige to get her knees up and hit the Ram-Paige on Bliss for the win.
Paige returned to WWE to replace Nicki Bella, who was injured, allowing her to compete in the women's tag team championship match.
